In a teachers world, school supplies shopping is our favorite time of the year. The deals on office supplies and other knickknacks are best at this time. No pun intended to the Christmas song.
Back in the 90’s and just a little while ago before covid happened, kids would buy supplies and share it with their classrooms. Amazing how you would think that was a bad idea to begin with. Sharing of supplies spreads germs faster. So why did it take a pandemic to change our ways.
Some school districts opened this week. With kids having their own individual supplies at their individual spaces. For two days out of the week only. I’m pretty sure that’s how all the school will be doing their intro. I however think some of the classrooms (shown below) are not that bad if a set up. Kids can still be near their friends, with having masks on.
I think it’s smart and should continue for a while. That way it limits the amount of germs spread from kid to kid. Even if and when covid disappears, and we have a vaccine, the schools should require the spaces and separate supplies.

Sharing. Ironic isn’t it, the one term that we teach our kids from birth all the way until they enter school is now banned from all public places.
What’s funny is that when I was a teacher in the after school program and my kiddos would fight over the toys and I would teach them to share, but when it was their own toys from home they didn’t have to share. But kids would always complain that they were taught to share because it was the right thing to do. I would come back with, well if you break it , you have to buy them a new one. Lol. Always worked. Now, sharing is frowned upon for spread of the virus. How does that work?
Certain friends at different school address stakes are going to keep me informed on how it’s all going but I wish them all luck and hopefully the school year won’t be a bust.
