My teaching career, and the reason why I Left! Part 1!!!

So where to begin? I guess at the beginning. However all the places I worked for and the all people I worked with shall remain nameless. I just want to express my account of my side of it all.

Anyways, I have always known I wanted to be a teacher. Loved the idea of making kids happy and teaching them all the knowledge of the world.

So as I got into high school I had to choose a degree in elementary education. I graduated in 2001 and first went to MCC ( to get two years of sign language as my language credit) then onto ASU. Long story short, I graduated with summa Cum Laude. After years of not doing well in certain subjects, I excelled in this.

Course having worked with kids in an after school program before during my college career at a charter school helped a bunch.

However after graduation I realized I didn’t want to teach after all. I missed working with kids after school.

Plus I couldn’t pass the teachers certificate license exam, ( I am a horrible test taker) but I took it as a sign that teaching in the same room all day, the same grade level, and same material year after year, sounded boring. No offense to Teachers. I think it’s an awesome job, and they all should be paid as much as lawyers.

Back to it, I took some time off from working with kids and got a really good paying job with Sport Chalet. I started at the Tempe location and then got promoted to apparel manager for the Scottsdale location. ( I figured since they went out of business in the valley, I don’t care if I mention them)

I worked for them for about a year and then quit because my General Manager was a complete and utter dick. Excuse my language, but it’s the truth.

I am a friendly person, and very good with people. So when a grown ( 45 to my 24) yells at me for a stupid incident, I didn’t want to work their anyone. The incident, for those who want to know was; I was a apparel sales person, not a cashier. I was asked to help out whenever it got too busy, which I gladly did. However the last time I helped, I left my one staff member with a bunch of people. I helped get the line down, and the other TWO ACTUAL CASHIERS, were still up there not helping anyone. On my way clocking out, a woman comes up to me and I politely told her I couldn’t help her, that one of the others could. And that was the incident. I didn’t check the woman out, and got yelled for it. Like I said, Dick.

So I quit, and went looking for a job near where I lived, working in education again. I couldn’t go back to the charter school, because before I left, my boss said she couldn’t afford me after I graduate. Lol. Small town school, built in an old grocery store, but one hell of a school. Some part of me wants to enroll my kids there instead of the public. Maybe it will be safer for them there.

So I looked towards the local school district. My school District. The one I grew up through, and the one I took my College Course through. Some of the teachers had told me of the Community Education department. That it was big, and growing. Some of my close family friends even worked for them when they were young and loved it. Told me great things. Little did I know.

Until Part 2.
