Next Week: INSECTS!!!

BUGSSSSSS!!!!. Now I hate them as much as the next female, but I always give them a chance to live before I I get the bug spray or ant killer. lol. I always taught my kiddos ( students) and now my own kids, to respect insects, because without them our whole environment would not exists. We rely on the bee’s to pollinate flowers, butterfly’s travel thousands of miles in their small lifespan, which is why for preschool kids learn about bee’s and butterfly’s as separate units. However learning about bugs in general and how they operate is just as important.

Now this week is supposed to be spiders, but I dont like the idea about learning about arachnids right after Halloween. Fall is very important to learn about right now, and spiders, not so much. Right now, lots of bugs are getting ready for WINTER. So next week, as I said in the November lesson, I want to learn about those bugs and the kids will have fun with this unit too. My daughter especially cuz she loves certain bugs.

According to the year lesson plan, INSECTS isn’t supposed to be until MAY, but since we are stopping school two weeks before, I moved it in Spiders spot.

For Insects the areas of lesson plans are this:

  1. Science: Science in this unit is very important. Learning about the life cycle of bugs and what they are good for is very important. So You will need life cycles for the bugs you want to use as the most important.

2. Moto Skills: Go on a bug hunt, catch them in bug catchers. Have fun in your back yard looking for bugs. Catching them with nets or tweezers, thats good Gross and Fine motor together.

3. Math: Counting bugs, counting their legs and wings, etc. Plus our curriculum provides us with stuff that includes math.

4. Pretend Play:

You can go 1 of 3 ways.

  1. JUNGLE BUGS HUNT.

2. A laboratory that studies bugs in the lab.

3. WINGS dress up.

Any of them would be a great idea. I think I will be combining the lab with the wings. If I can get a hold of an old microscope (good will or loan) and some pictures, or bug stuff from lakeshore, It will be a lab, but I will also have out the kids play wings. Wings are for 1.00 at the dollar tree. they are fairy wings, but it sill works.

4. ART:

I will be doing two projects this day.

  1. FLY SWATTER PAINTING: Believe it or not, your fly swatter, ( please get a dollar store brand new one) and paint with it.

2. The kids will be making their own wings.

This will be fun day. Fun week and fun subject all together.

WISH ME LUCK. HAPPY HALLOWEEN.
