When you think of fall you will most likely think of fall leaves falling from the trees. Here in Arizona ( phoenix valley) that is far the norm. Yes we get cooler, like starting tomorrow where the winter winds come in from the north and give us a high of 60, but we don’t have many trees that have a season feel to it. We have palm trees and giant fichus trees, but not a lot of trees that will turn. If you head up north to Flagstaff or Pine Top, that’s where the seasons show.
Course that wont stop me from teaching the seasons changing to my kiddos.
So next week, the theme is around leaves falling and how the season change the trees.
For PRETEND PLAY:
Get a bunch of FAKE LEAVES, and kid rakes from the dollar store or if you can get ahold of a few sand toy rakes on sale from the summer supplies at Walmart or target, that will work too. For the tree, they are using a old coat rack and gluing leaves to it. From the fall garage sales that are going on, look out for anything to do with fall.
( NOTE FOR THE NEXT COULPLE OF WEEKS) : also keep a look out for things to do with hibernation and thanksgiving, old winter clothes and camping gear. Lots of fun coming up the following week.
Art Ideas:
You can use some of those fake leaves, ( in case you can’t get ahold of real leaves) and make a fall wreath. Use those old wine corks or find something round to use as a stamp for your tree. Plus, my favorite, leave rubbing.
For Math:
By now my kiddos are learning how to count up to 100, and recognizing numbers. Before this summer, my daughter couldn’t focus on the numbers to know what they were. Now she is finding numbers everywhere we go and knowing what they are. In twos though. Which is good. She can recognize 3278 as 32 and 78, but not as the thousand yet, and I am not going that far. Just need to focus on them knowing their numbers and reading them left to right. After Christmas we will focus on writing their numbers. Don’t want to push so much. As far as adding and subtracting, the Number Blocks are doing that for me, but simple adding and memorizing what they are. Well get there.
Also there is also advanced shapes.
SCIENCE:
Science is all about the seasons and what causes the tree to change throughout them. Why some trees do this and why some don’t. Plus how scientist know how old a tree is.
This is going to be fun.
