Next week is supposed to be about Squirrels and Acorns. Now In my Teacher mind, that means we are learning about hibernation. Course that isn’t the case.
I printed off the Activity Pack for it, for helpful use, but it doesn’t help with what the science should be about in preschool.
When I was teaching ELC I loved the Hibernation unit that I was given to taught. The kids had fun with it too.
So instead, I am going to be doing a lesson on animals that ( at this time of year) will be either getting ready to Hibernate, Migrate, or Adapt.
I am trying to find as many free printable as I can get, but truth. Not a whole lot of free things on this. Not the way I want it. So I am going to make it myself. I am not sure how to upload a PDF, but I Will try.
This post is just to give you an idea of what you can do for each center for this Theme. Once I have made my PDF, I will post it for FREE on my blog. Just give me the weekend to figure it out.
PRETEND PLAY:
Turn their play area into a tent making area. Put blankets and teddy bears out. Explain that animals who Hibernate love to sleep all winter long. So it is their job to make the best tent for them to last the winter. Or get a giant carboard box and make it a Bear Cave.
Items to get: Clothes pins, heavy hooks, big sheets, blankets, etc.
Math Skills:
Get acorns, nuts, berries, even pin cones, and count till your hearts content. Bears and other animals have to collect their food to last until they hibernate. So the kids need to collect and count them. Make a inventory chart for their level.
Science:
Learning and teaching them about what animals do in the winter is essential. All animals do something during winter.
It is up to them to find out which does what.
Put up a giant piece of poster paper on the wall and divide it into three sections.
Print off a bunch of pictures of animals, and have them put them where they think they belong. Correct them or reward them for getting them right.
When it comes to writing or reading. Find as many books or videos to have available to help you with the explanation of these terms.
Okay wish me luck. I will post that PDF, or even images on my next post.
