You can’t celebrate Christmas without watching the classics. And I do mean Classics. AMC classics.
The movies that came out in THEATRES becuase there wasn’t such a things as the HALLMARK Channel. When people had to go to the movies to watch these Christmas Flix.
First up.
- WHITE CHRISTMAS: 1954

A little family history here. This movie was my grandmother and aunts favorite movie. From my mom side. I watch it as part of our making cookies tradition even though they are in heaven. I know they are watching down on me smiling at what I am doing to pass on.
2. Wonderful Life: 1947

3. Miracle on 45th Street : 1946

Note: You can watch the 1947 version and then watch the Remake to compare and contrast.
4. The Christmas Carol: 1951

This movie has lots of versions. You can make it marathon of them all. I can do a separate blog that lists all of them.
5. Shop around the Corner: 1941

Note: cute fact. This movie was made into a semi remake. If you cant recognize the pun of the title. Its from “YOU GOT MAIL”. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan make a movie about two people who hate each other who fall in love at the end. Meg Ryans character owns a book store called…… “The shop around the Corner.”
6. The Bishops Wife: 1947

Note: Made into a remake in the 90’s and personally I prefer Whitney Houston’s “The Preachers Wife.” to the original. Maybe I am just Whitney nostalgic. I miss her so much.
7. Remember the Night 1940

8. Christmas in Connecticut: 1945

9. Little Women: 1949

Note: For the record, Little Women has been made 6 times as a motion picture for the big screen. Plus man times into a TV movie. Watching them all would be another marathon you can do. My favorite version is the 1990’s version with all my favorite 90’s actors and actresses in it. However I love watching this version from time to time and the newest theatrical release was different, yet amusing. It may not be an official Christmas film, but it has Christmas in it, and I always love watching it during the holidays. It give the audience a perspective of a poor family during the war and how it effects them during Christmas. a great family discussion.
10. Finally the last movie to watch is…… Meet me In Saint Louis 1944

Cant go wrong with Judy Garland. Its once again not a Christmas movie per se but it does have Christmas in it. I know there are others. Holiday Inn and the Holiday Affair, but I prefer Meet me in Saint Loui. Maybe its because Sex in the City brought it to my attention on year and Carrie was watching it from her place on new years.
