Okay when you think of December you think of Winter and Christmas and other Holidays. It’s the Holiday Season. Now here are the basic most popular themes for December.

Now compare this to the themes from Prekprintables.

Now let’s break down the weeks:
Dec 7: Deck the Halls
Dec 14: Gingerbread and Sweat Treats
Dec 21: Santa and His Helpers
Dec 28: New Years.
So mostly Christmas themes. Which is okay. But there are other holidays in the month, and if you want to switch out the weeks to fit your religion you can. Even if you don’t celebrate it, you can do all the holidays as a teaching idea. I once didn’t Hanukkah and Kwanzaa in the same week and plaid the games and did the crafts with them to show them there are other holidays other than Christmas. A lot of my kids didn’t know about that.
According to my curriculum Deck the Halls is all about Decorating and Wrapping. And for pretend play it could be Santa’s Workshop, but Santa’s Workshop is again in Santa’s Little Helpers. So I am going to change up a few things. My curriculum also has side packs for other holidays. So…….
December 7 = Let’s Celebrate the Holidays. I am going to talk about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and play the games. For pretend play I am going to make the area into a TOY STORE.

December 14: Sweets and Treats: keeping it the same. Baking and gingerbread is very big. Now what I used to do with my middle schoolers and even my preschoolers is make gingerbread houses out of Graham crackers. Plus candy canes!!!! The Pretend play will be the HOT CHOCOLATE SHOP.

December 21: Christmas is Here: keeping it the same and yet not. Talk about Christmas ( Jesus Birthday) plus why we celebrate. Now here is where it will get tricky. I am doing Santa with my kids, yet my extra student comes from a family that knows the truth. Course he knows not to say anything, (I hope) , and we can do some fun stuff with Santa’s Workshop for Pretend Play and other activities.

December 28: New Years: going to keep this the same as the curriculum cuz it’s fun to celebrate the New Year. Have a little noon party, countdown from 10. Which is always a great math skill. Course we can count down from 20. Cuz they are smart.

So I’m looking forward to it.
Bring on December.
