Next Week: Snow and Snowmen

Here is the funny thing. Anyone noticing that this winter is a little warmer than usual. We usually go up to Flagstaff with the kids every year during January to go play in the snow. However this year we wanted to go up to Pinetop instead. Mostly to visit a friend of the family. We are still going, no doubt about that. We need a vacation, even just for the weekend.

Course there might not be enough snow to play, but well see. Maybe there might be a last minute rainfall up north that will result in snow.

With that in the works. Next weeks theme is Snow and Snowmen.

In Arizona we don’t have know here in the valley. Which is always the hardest part of this theme. However there is lots you can do in your little classroom to make it into a winter wonderland.

  1. Go to your local fabric store ( Joann’s, Hobby Lobby,) and get white blanket cloth

The white cloth can be placed on the floor on on the walls or on anything else to use to look like snow in your area.

2. Find at any Walmart, Target, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc the SNOW BALL FIGHT GAME

You can use large poms poms too, if you have them. We will use them to play a snow ball fight in the classroom, but its softer than snow. So no one gets hurt.

3. Print and find any weather water chart.

Prekprintable fun has a water cycle activity to print, so we will use that.

You can use this to explain now rain is created and snow as well. Plus there are experiments to do to help them understand how it is created. PreK Printable has this whole packet oh different experiments you can do.

Now there are others, but we are going to wait to do them until the spring with the theme “Clouds Wind and Rain, ( basically Weather)” and do the rest. But its always fun to explain it twice. That way they get it better the second time around.

Now onto Art.

The best Snowman Art projects are:

With pretend play you can do the following ideas

  1. ICEE Station: you can use dollar store shower sponges. Plus you can do ICEES as the actual snack too or even as a fun treat

2. Up in the mountain: Get the snowballs and the cloth and have a snowball fight

3. Ice Skating rink: tape plastic on the ground and have the kids wear their socks.

I always did the ice skating rink in my MPR and the kids were always bumping into each other. However. With three kids I think I can manage.

I think this is going to be a great theme. I also found some awesome math printables for free on Teachers pay Teachers, and I will be using BINGO for their math lesson next week.

Have a great weekend everyone.
