So according to the school district that we are in rolling the kids in, which will remain anonymous, the kids IEP‘s will be good for three years. It is the evaluation process that is ongoing throughout their years of school with the district, That will change throughout their school careers.

Let’s go back to talking about IEP‘s for A second. It is the legal contract that binds a student to a certainTool that every single one of their teachers will read. They will learn from that contract how to educate any child that has one, because every kid learns differently.
My kids and I’m not afraid to put this out there will have two completely different IEP ‘s. My daughter will have one that is all about her attention Spand and her impulses, that are from her attention deficit hyper activity disorder other wise known as ADHD. My son since he has delays in speech most of his IEP will be around that. His preschool teacher this next year will have ways to help him learn how to speak in full sentences and speak clearly with classroom materials and the local schools speech therapist.
If your child shows delays or behavioral differences by the age of three than he or she qualifies through the state free preschool after being tested by the school district for an IEP in any of those categories. If they show significant delay in speech in general by the age of two contact your pediatrician and they will submit a request to the state and you will get free speech therapy coming to your house until your child goes into preschool the following year at the age of three.
When my son was too we did this process and we had a speech therapist come to our house until he was three and it helped. Then by his third birthday we submitted testing for free preschool and we got in with the local school district. However on their first day of preschool, both my daughters and my sons with their IEP‘s last year, Covid close the schools. If you don’t remember the whole story go visit my previous blogs.

Let’s return to the subject at hand. What is the next step for us. I enrolled only my daughter into the kindergarten program through the district and picked my top five choices of schools that we wanted to her to attend. In the next couple months we will find out the resultsOf which of the five schools we packed she will attend. And with that the schools on site therapist will probably be in contact with me to discuss her transition into kindergarten with her IEP.
The next step after that in March on the 16th, we will have open enrollment for the preschool program in which we will enroll our son hopefully into the same school that his sister is going to. Personally I don’t want them to go to two different schools but if there’s no room at the preschool where she’s going to, Then I will have him attend a preschool that’s the closest to that school. So when I find out what school she is actually going to and I pick the fives schools that I like for my son, I will pick the schools that are nearby with a preschool program if he cannot get into the school she is at. With a sister already in rolled in the kindergarten program I have high hopes that they will be together in the same school.

It is only January, and that we cannot know what the future holds at this point for next year school year. If the country gets better with everybody getting vaccines by the summer, then we will continue on with the school district. If the country gets worse, we don’t know what we plan on doing. But it will be the best for my children.
