Getting prepared for the Upcoming Assessment.

Now I may not be a Licensed Preschool Teacher, but I did graduate Summa cum laude in elementary education, and worked in Education for 15 years of my life Preschool-8th graders.

I know what a Preschool assessment is. for those of you who don’t, it’s a test. Point blank. It’s a tool a teacher uses to assess how each of their students is doing and growing throughout the year. At the start of the year they use it to see what the kids know, and throughout the year what they have learned on top of what they already know and what they had no clue of.

Thanks to Prekprintables I printed off the assessment tool ( all 100 pages of it) to get ready to asses my kids. Two are going into kinder next year and one is heading into Pre-k , I need to figure out what they are doing well at so far and what we need to work on for the rest of the year, based on the state standards.

State Standards? what is that you might ask?

Well it’s “ the Common Core State Standards Initiative is an educational initiative from 2010 that details what K–12 students throughout the United States should know in English language arts and mathematics at the conclusion of each school grade.”

States have always had some form of their own standards, but now the whole country is trying to get everyone on board on how and what kids should be learning by their age.

Preschool is no different.

These are the standards preschoolers need to learn before they go into kinder. Now preschool is not a requirement for kinder, and it’s a choice. Yes it costs money , unless your child ( like both mine due) have been tested for IEPS and then it’s free. But if you want to make sure you little one is ready, you can look it up by your state.

So with that, I decided to look over these today after we had class, and started thoroughly lesson planning for the rest of the year the math skills I need them to have. Next I will go over their other subjects. Sometimes those things are integrated within the printable for the week. Such as community helpers , self learning, ways to approach learning.

So what I will do next is go through and organize the entire assessment and check off what I know they have already learned and accomplished.

Then I’ll highlight the subjects and things they need to work on harder for the year.

As far as the summer goes, I will integrate learning in with the summer camp stuff I have.

Wish me luck.
