Okay everyone. Here we go. February is about to Change…….. NOT!!!!!
Evidently, we are sticking with the themes for the month. Why? I like them. LOL.
So without further a do….. Here are the themes for February.
During the month of February there are a lot of themes you can do other than the ones she picked or that i am sticking with. For example: Black History Month, Chinese New Year, Groundhog Day, and Presidents. Being that they are all holidays in the month of February, its always a tough choice to decide what to do. A lot of people ( some of my past parents) would ask me why we aren’t do a particular theme. I would have to tell them that we chose not to. Nothing against it, its just we chose the more fun themes for preschoolers. Once I got into Middle School kids, then I could do more of those themes. Anyways, the other themes for the month are what we are doing.
Week of February 1st: POST OFFICE
Post office workers, if you can believe it or not, are honored this month as well. Why? Well all the valentines that go through them this time of the year, and they are closed during presidents day. So in order to honor them, we learn about them, and all the hard work they do.
With this the best pretend play kit comes with it. The post office.
Week of February 8th: VALENTINES DAY ( Friendship Week)
Now, before you go, typical, let me let you in on a little thing, its history, the history of friendship and love. Now there have been many versions of the story of Saint Valentine, but it comes down to this, Saint Valentine was a believer in love and marriage. When they outlawed marriage because the king wanted a MANLY army, he went behind his back to do it. He got thrown in jail, and then was put to death on February 14th. The story goes that while he was in jail, he befriended a blind girl while tutoring her. Before he died, he wrote her a letter. What was on the letter, no one really knows, but he signed it FROM YOUR VALENTINE. So that is why we celebrate it with kids. We teach them the history of it, and we call it FRIENDSHIP WEEK. The beauty of friendship.
For the Pretend play part of it, we do the most usual thing that is Valentines day. FLOWER SHOP.
Flower shop is super easy. You go to the dollar tree, and you get lots of holiday looking flowers and you set it up with also dollar tree pots.
Well get into more detail the week of.
February 15th: Dental Health
Another thing that is celebrated in February for preschoolers is HEALTH month. We teach the kids about how to take care of themselves, and about hygiene. Now when I did this is the afterschool program or the middle school one, I really strived to make my point across, especially for those kids who HAVE NONE, or their parents are so broke, they cant afford it. So what we usually do is do a collection for the homeless or the FAMILY DISTRICT program that helps its needed kids, get the stuff they need.
However I dont have to worry about that yet for my kids, but well go into detail about how showers are important and how BRUSHING YOUR TEETH is very important.
Pretend play is an easy thing. We will set up a dentist office. Course here is a cool thing, for those of you who dont know, DOLLAR TREE, has everything you will need to make a DENTIST KIT for each of the kids.
Toothbrushes, floss, mini mirrors, toothpaste, etc. Then print off the dentist kit from prek and your in business.
Finally
February 22: Vet and Pets
Now not only is February Dental Health month but it is PETS DENTAL HEALTH MONTH. LOL.
For this we are just going to talk about pets and having them. The responsibility of them and such. Its perfect because my parents just got a new puppy, and my kids are having a hard time ( especially my son who is 3) knowing how to play with a dog.
So with that we will be doing all of this and more for this week.
Pretend play, is going to be turned into a Pet Clinic and it is so cute.
Now I will say we did this already last summer , for fun, but we will do it all over again , the entire lesson, (because we just used the pet clinic printable to play with) and learn this time. LOL. I hope.
As for the other things that happen in January, Prekprintables does have those things to print off to add to your lessons.
She has a BLACK Inventors and Scientist pintables. Now forgive me, if you are offended by the word BLACK, I never know the correct PC for HUMAN BEINGS skin tones. Everyone is beautiful and unique in my eyes, we are all the same. Anyways, moving on.
She has a Chinese New year printable and pretend play to print off too.
Groundhog mini math kit
Finally she has a presidents kit to print off as well. So if you every need to print off other things, you can.
I think preschoolers are too young to learn about Racisms, I am teaching them that everyone is equal and everyone is beautiful in our eyes because GOD made us all.
