Next Up: Spring Weather!!! The Lion and the Lamb.

During this time of the year here in Arizona we start to see spring emerge before March 21st. However this year it looks like we are having an odd year thanks to the Polar Vortex. It’s cold in the morning and nice in the afternoons. So winter is fighting spring to stay in play.

However it’s the perfect time of the month to talk about Weather in general. Now with the Winter we talk about snow, we talk about hibernation . But we talk about actual weather in the spring time when it makes the most sense.

When we think of weather , we think , rain, sunny, snowing, cloudy, etc. we even sing a song every day during school hours to ask that question.

“ what’s the weather , what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it sunny, is it rainy, is it cloudy out today.”

The the kids put up a Velcro sticker on our board that shows them the weather for the day.

This week ( next week) we will be taking about actual weather. Now kids don’t learn about how weather makes weather until about 2nd or 3rd grade. But for preschoolers, weather basics is important.

The weather unit goes over Clouds, Wind, and Rain, but that’s now all that happens in weather. So I am going to add a few things. Like….

And a few other things too.

I will go over what we usually see in Arizona, including our lovley Haboobs. You know those things we are famous for in the spring.

We had a semi intense weather pattern with a mini dust storm today. It was crazy, but hopefully it will sprinkle tonight ( cuz it was raining in Cali today) and cook us down a little. Maybe , maybe not.

For pretend play: a News Station.

I am going to ask to Barrow my dads old camera and see if the kids will like seeing something old. Lol. The pretend play wall, will become a news station.

I loved playing this years ago with my former students. They loved playing it too. I actually taught during a summer academy a News Station class. They had to do research on the news and report it while being taped. It was difficult , cuz we only had one hour a day, but they had fun.

Now for a craft, we’ll make a wind sock to take and hang.

And another craft that is fun for weather is….

For them to make their own weather chart to take home.

We’ll see if we have time for both on Monday.

As far as math and science goes for this week: weather and temperature is easy enough to understand. So for math, we’ll talk about hot vs cold, and what the degrees on a thermometer mean.

Well, that’s it for how. Let’s have fun next week.
